The AFF Annual Meeting Held in Tunisia

The Arab Foundations Forum (AFF) held over two days the Annual Meeting and General Assembly at the Movenpick Hotel in Gammarth, Tunisia.

AFF’s CEO Naila Farouky and Emirates Foundation’s CEO Clare Woodcroft gave the opening remarks and the welcome note respectively.

World Food Programme Global Ambassador against Hunger, lawyer and actress, Hend Sabri provided the keynote address where she stressed the importance of the work AFF is doing in the philanthropy sector in the MENA region.

The first session entitled “Organizational Culture and Leadership” was facilitated by Karim Ragab through which participants were engaged in issues related to the cultural effects on the overall organizational leadership, whereas the second session focused on the “Role of Arab Foundations in Addressing the Sustainable Development Goals” with the participation of Rana Diab (Hani Qaddumi Scholarship Foundation), Samar Haydar (Arab Human Rights Fund), Khalid Abdullah Al Massan (Oman LNG Development Foundation) and Lina Lazaar (Kamel Lazaar Foundation).

During the afternoon, Barbara Inbrahim from AUC moderated the session on “Cultures of Giving: Qualitative Measures” with the participation of Sherine Taraboulsi (Overseas Development Institute) and Luareen Bradford (Foundation Center). The first day was concluded with a reception held by the Lebanese Ambassador to Tunisia H.E. Bassam Naamani.

During the second day, independent researcher Nosra Ayari opened the discussion with a presentation on the “Tunisian Philanthropic Landscape” which was followed by an intervention led by the OECD Partnerships and Networks Senior Counsellor Bathylle Missika who announced in turn the launching of the Youth Coalition. Afterwards, Centris Executive Director Barry Knight took over with an overview about the SDG Global Research.

During the last part of the meeting, two sessions took place simultaneously. The first one discussed the developmental process of the Youth Coalition whereas the second one explored the practical tools in relation to the qualitative and quantitative data.

The second day was concluded with the election of a new board followed by a Gala Dinner.
