RANAA Strategic Workshop

Establishing Regional Platform on HIV and Harm Reduction

The Regional Arab Network against AIDS (RANAA) organized a three-day workshop at the Commodore Hotel in Hamra – Beirut, aiming at establishing a platform of MENA networks working on HIV and Harm Reduction.

RANAA Executive Director Golda Eid kicked-off the meeting with a brief introduction about the major objectives of the seminars while stressing the importance of achieving high level outcomes in order to enhance the impact of activities for KPs and PLHIV in the region.

LDN President Amin Nehme facilitated the workshop which gathered representatives of prominent regional networks such as ITPC-MENA, M-COALITION, MENAROSA, MENAHRA, MENANPUD, RANAA and MENA-Legal which attended as observer.

The first day of the workshop was dedicated for the creation of the Statement of Purpose of the newly established Platform, whereas during the second day, the participants discussed topics related to the Organizational Structure vis-à-vis the Goals and Objectives, the Strategy and Plans, the Strategic Options as well as the process towards the establishment of the intended coalition.

During the third day, several topics took place such as the Managerial Structure and Mechanism, the Mobilization of Resources, and the Sustainability Plan of the new entity.

The workshop was organized in partnership with The Middle East and North Africa Harm Reduction Association (MENAHRA) and funded by the Arab Human Rights Fund (AHRF) in order to establish a regional platform formed of the KPs regional networks and to develop the platform’s mechanism through promoting human rights, gender equality and rights to access.

RANAA works on strengthening the role of its networks and their members by providing technical support and capacity building in various organizational and thematic areas. In addition, RANAA works on ensuring that People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and Key Populations (KPs) attain their health rights, live in dignity, and have access to support, treatment and care.
