HQSF - “Sparking Dialogue on Education”

Program Participants meet Palestinian Ambassador During Visit to Finland

The Hani Qaddumi Scholarship Foundation hosted a dinner in honor of the Ambassador of Palestine to Finland, His Excellency Taissir Al Ajouri, during a study visit of twenty-five Palestinian educators to Finland. The study visit kicks off an ambitious new program entitled “Sparking Dialogue on Education”, the inaugural program for HQSF’s recently launched initiative, Khutwa for Inspired Education in Palestine.

During the meeting, participants shared with the Ambassador some impressions regarding their visits to several educational institutions including schools, the University of Helsinki, and Omnia Vocational Institute, which provided them with a first-hand look at some of the key elements of the Finnish education system. Speaking to the Ambassador, the participants expressed how inspired they were by the different models of education that they witnessed, by the decentralization of education administration, as well as by a host of other positive elements of the education ecosystem.

The participants – teachers, school principals, and other education stakeholders – expressed their excitement about taking part in the program, which has given them the opportunity to learn about Finland’s top ranking education system, as well as the process the country went through to bring about the change and reform necessary to truly educate and equip students with 21st century skills. They expressed their hopes that education in Palestine would achieve a level of excellence comparable to Finland.

His Excellency the Ambassador stated that this program is a continuation of a well-established relationship of cooperation between Palestine and Finland. Finland was one of the prominent nations to back education in Palestine, supporting the first curriculum in the early 2000’s. He expressed his hopes that the participants would be successful in achieving their dreams for education in Palestine, and considers the program a step in the right direction to strengthen the education ecosystem as a whole.

HQSF director Rana Diab expressed her appreciation for the meeting with His Excellency, which greatly encouraged and inspired the participants, saying that “HQSF greatly values efforts towards cooperation in achieving common goals for education in Palestine.”

“Sparking Dialogue on Education” is the inaugural program of HQSF’s recently launched initiative, Khutwa for Inspired Education in Palestine, which brings together key stakeholders from across the education system for a dialogue aimed at fostering an efficient and up-to-date ecosystem able to empower youth to build a prosperous nation.
