Princess Sumaya Inaugurates ‘MedaWomen 2018’ in Amman

In the presence of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, The Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) co-organized with the Association of Mediterranean Businesswomen's Organizations (AFAEMME), and the Jordan Forum Business and Professional Women, the 10th edition of the “MedaWomen Forum 2018: Women in Technology, the Way Forward."

In her opening speech, Princess Sumaya underlined that women have proven themselves to be “innovative, creative, resourceful and driven” individuals when given the opportunity.

“Such events help build their confidence, celebrate their success and devise better strategies to achieve incredible outcomes for women entrepreneurs and the society as a whole,” she added.

The Princess noted as well that technology goes hand in hand with empowerment and knowledge-sharing, citing the smart power in the technology sector as an important tool to overcome obstacles women entrepreneurs face. She also pointed out to the emerging need to address specific issues that hinder the growth of women-led startups.

This Roadshow explored topics relevant to a changing society using innovative tools and unconventional approaches. Businesswomen, policy makers, entrepreneurs and spokespersons from various sectors were present throughout the event to share experiences and encourage public discussion.

According to the Pew Research Centre, women make up 40 per cent of the workforce in 80 countries around the world, and 163 million women have started new businesses in 74 countries since 2016.

The EBSOMED project Roadshows are organized to help increase the flow of commercial partnerships between Europe and the southern Mediterranean countries, as well as South-South companies and investments, with a focus on promotion and capacity building through networking and exchange of experience between different components of the business sector with a particular interest for businesswomen and young entrepreneurs.

The EBSOMED Roadshow ‘MedaWomen Forum 2018’ is supported by Amman Chamber of Commerce and Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.
