LDN Joins "Math Kangaroo" International Contest

Gearing up for a global expansion, the Lebanese Development Network (LDN) joined Kangourou Sans Frontières (KSF), the organizing association of Kangaroo International Mathematical Competition.

AKSF is a Paris-based organization whose purpose is to promote mathematics among young people around the world.

"Kangaroo of Mathematics" is the largest annual competition for school students.

Each year over six million pupils aged 5-18 from around 80 countries take part at various levels, where more countries are expected to join.

According to the organizers, the key competence tested by Mathematical Kangaroo is logical combination, not just pure knowledge of formulas.

The competition aims at fostering enthusiasm for the subject of math where students enjoy testing their skills in everything from addition and subtraction to algebra and geometry.

KSF was originally initiated in 1978 by the Australian math teacher Peter O'Halloran as a new kind of game in schools. Later on, it was established in 1991 in France by André Deledicq, a professor of mathematics at the University of Paris 7, and Jean-Pierre Boudine, professor of mathematics at Marseille.
