In the framework of SOLiD II project, BUSINESSMED organized in Lebanon on September 21, 22, 23 and 24 a series of National Capacity Building Workshops dedicated for local social actors such as the employers' organisations and their counterparts, as well as the workers' trade unions.

The event was implemented under the theme ''Social Dialogue and Sustainable Development” aiming at reinforcing economic and social councils and gradually opening up the dialogue among the various stakeholders.

The Pilot project was initially implemented in Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. It integrated civil society as a full partner in the project. It resulted in the adoption of a Charter to promote social dialogue in the South Mediterranean.

Consequently, t will translate the Charter into concrete national action plans in the countries of the pilot phase which is extended to three new countries: Algeria, Lebanon and Palestine.

The second phase of the SOLiD covers two separate components. The first one aims at promoting multipartite social dialogue in Southern Mediterranean Countries, whereas the second one consists of supporting the progressive formalization of the informal economy.

SOLiD is coordinated by a consortium of 4 partners: The International Trade Union Organization (ITUC), The Arab Trade Union Organization (ATUC), The Union of Mediterranean Confederations of Enterprises (BUSINESSMED-UMCE) and The Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND).
