Interests
In my spare time I keep myself updated on the current affairs in academic journals about the North Africa and the Middle East region by attending talks and forums and through anthropological journals. I have a great interest in the Arab Spring and particularly its repercussions in women’s movements, Islamic feminisms, and the struggle for gender equality.
Inspired by my dissertation work, I have also developed a great passion for the multiculturalist
project in Western Europe, ‘cultural politics’ and European Muslim identities.
In general, claims to represent ‘Eastern’ or ‘Western’ values and mediation between the two,
interest me. Therefore, I have started a blog https://orientalismoccidentalism.wordpress.com/ last
year on the matter of occidentalism and orientalism. Here I discuss the anthropological
approaches to representation and the consequences it has had in the past and current media and
dialogue between Europe and America and the Middle East.
